How to Set an Alarm on Your Galaxy

Albert is sixty-eight. He takes a tablet every morning at eight o clock. For years he used a small bedside clock with tiny buttons. The buttons were hard to see in the dark. One morning he pressed the wrong button. The alarm did not ring. He missed his tablet by two hours and felt worried all day.

Your Galaxy phone has a built in alarm clock. It is easier to read than many small clocks. The numbers are large. The buttons are clear. You can set an alarm for the same time every day. You can also set a one off alarm for a single morning, such as the day of a hospital visit. This guide shows you how to set an alarm step by step, pick a sound you can hear, and turn the alarm off in the morning without stress.

You do not need to learn every feature of the Clock app. You need only a few taps. We will set one simple alarm first. Then you will learn how to change it, repeat it on chosen days, and delete it when you no longer need it. Go slowly. Check the time on the screen before you save.

Before you start

Decide what time you want the alarm to ring. Write it down if that helps. For example, write 7:30 in the morning. Say it out loud. Seven thirty in the morning. That small check stops the most common error, setting an evening alarm by mistake.

Make sure your phone has some charge before bed. Plug it in to charge overnight if you can. Put it on your bedside table, close enough that you can hear it. You do not need to leave the screen on. The alarm will ring even if the screen is dark. Keep the phone the right way up so the speaker is not covered by a blanket or a book.

How to set a new alarm

The alarm lives in the Clock app. The Clock app icon usually looks like a clock face. It may sit in your apps list. Swipe up on the home screen to see all your apps, then look for the clock icon. Tap it once to open it. Inside the Clock app, look for the word Alarm. That is the section we need.

  1. Open the Clock app. Swipe up on the home screen, find the clock icon, and tap it once. The Clock screen opens. You may see words such as Alarm, World clock, Stopwatch, and Timer near the top or bottom.
  2. Tap the word Alarm. This shows your alarms. If you have never set one, the list may be empty. That is normal. We are about to add your first alarm.
  3. Look for a plus sign. It is often a large plus inside a circle, near the bottom or top of the screen. The plus means add something new. Tap it once. A new alarm screen opens.
  4. Set the hour first. You will see large numbers you can scroll or tap. Move the hour number until it shows the hour you want. For a morning alarm at seven thirty, set the hour to 7.
  5. Set the minutes next. Move the minute number until it shows the minutes you want. For seven thirty, set the minutes to 30. Check the numbers carefully before you move on.
  6. Check morning or evening. This step matters most. Your phone may show AM for the morning and PM for the evening. It may show a small sun or moon picture instead. Make sure morning alarms say AM. An alarm set to 7:30 PM will ring in the evening, not in the morning. Read this twice.
  7. Choose the days if you want the alarm to repeat. Below the time you may see letters for the days of the week, such as S, M, T, W, T, F, S. Tap the days you want. For every weekday morning, tap Monday through Friday. For every day, tap all seven days. Leave the days blank if you want the alarm to ring only once.
  8. Pick a sound you can hear well. Look for a row that says Alarm sound or Sound. Tap it. You will hear a list of sounds. Tap one to hear it. Choose a clear, gentle sound that still wakes you. Avoid a very soft sound if you sleep deeply. Avoid a very loud or harsh sound if it startles you.
  9. Check the volume if your phone shows a volume slider for the alarm. Move it to a level you can hear from your pillow. A middle or high level is safer than a very low level for a first alarm.
  10. Save the alarm. Look for a word such as Save at the top or bottom of the screen. Tap Save once. Your alarm now appears in the Alarm list. A small switch beside it should be turned on. That means the alarm is active and will ring at the time you set.

Read the list after you save. It should show the time, the days, and the sound name. If anything looks wrong, tap the alarm again to open it, fix the time, and save it again. It is better to fix it now than to wake up at the wrong time.

How to change or delete an alarm

Life changes. A hospital visit moves. A grandchild visits and you want to sleep later. You can change an alarm in seconds. You do not need to delete it and start again, unless you want to.

  1. Open the Clock app and tap Alarm, as before.
  2. Tap the alarm you want to change. The same time screen opens. Change the hour, the minutes, the days, or the sound.
  3. Tap Save. The list shows the new time at once.
  4. To turn an alarm off for a while without deleting it, tap the small switch beside it. When the switch is off, the alarm will not ring. Tap it again to turn it back on when you need it.
  5. To delete an alarm for good, look for a delete option on the alarm screen. It may be a bin icon or the word Delete. Tap it and confirm if your phone asks. The alarm leaves the list. You can always add a new one later.

How to stop an alarm in the morning

When the alarm rings, your phone will show large buttons on the screen. One button stops the alarm. Another button may delay it for a few minutes. That delay is called snooze. Snooze lets you sleep a little longer, then rings again. Snooze is useful, but it can also make you late if you press it many times.

Look at the screen when the alarm rings. Find the button that says Dismiss or Stop. It is often at the bottom of the screen. Tap it or swipe it in the direction shown. The sound stops. If you want to get up at once, tap Dismiss. If you need five more minutes, you can use Snooze once, but set a second alarm as a backup if you often sleep through the first one.

If the alarm rings while the phone is locked, you may need to swipe the button across the screen instead of tapping it. Follow the arrow on the screen. Take your time. The alarm will keep ringing for a while. It will not harm your phone if it rings for a minute or two while you wake up.

Try it slowly: Albert practises in the afternoon

Albert did not wait until bedtime to try his first alarm. He practised in the afternoon, when there was no pressure. He set an alarm for five minutes in the future. He chose a gentle bell sound. He tapped Save. He put the phone on the table and waited. Five minutes later the bell rang. He practised tapping Dismiss. The sound stopped. He smiled. He knew the alarm worked.

Then Albert set his real alarm. He wanted eight o clock in the morning, every day. He set the hour to 8 and the minutes to 00. He checked AM twice. He tapped all seven day letters. He picked the same bell sound. He moved the volume up a little. He tapped Save. That night he plugged the phone in beside his bed. In the morning the bell rang at eight. He took his tablet on time. He told his neighbour, I trust the phone now, because I tested it first.

Try the same afternoon test. Set an alarm five minutes from now. Listen for it. Practise stopping it. Then set your real alarm and check the time twice. Testing in the day removes the fear of the morning. You already know what the sound is and what button stops it.

Common mistakes

These mistakes are common. They are easy to avoid once you know them.

Frequently asked questions

Will the alarm ring if my phone is on silent?

Yes, in most cases the alarm still rings even when the phone is set to silent for calls. The alarm has its own sound and volume. That is why the alarm is a good tool for the morning. Still, test it once in the afternoon with your phone on silent, so you know how your own phone behaves. If you use Do not disturb at night, check the alarm settings. Many phones let alarms ring through Do not disturb, but it is wise to test it.

Will the alarm ring if the phone is switched off?

Do not rely on it. On most Galaxy phones the alarm needs the phone to be on, even if the screen is dark. Leave the phone on overnight and plug it in to charge. If you turn the phone fully off, the alarm may not ring. Keep the phone on, with the screen off, and it will work.

Can I set more than one alarm?

Yes. You can set many alarms. Tap the plus sign again to add another one. For example, set one alarm for waking up and a second alarm for taking medicine an hour later. Give each alarm a different time and, if you can, a different sound. Check the list to make sure each alarm switch is on.

How do I set an alarm for one day only?

When you set the alarm, leave the days blank. Do not tap any day letters. An alarm with no days will ring once at the time you set, then it will not repeat. This is good for a single hospital visit or an early train. After it rings, you can delete it or turn its switch off.

What if I cannot find the Clock app?

Swipe up on the home screen to see all apps. Look slowly through the list. The Clock app may be in a folder with other Samsung apps. Look for a clock face icon. You can also use the search box at the top of the apps screen. Type the word clock. Tap the Clock app in the results. If you still cannot find it, ask a family member to help you look once, then practise opening it yourself three times.

Why did my alarm ring at the wrong time?

Check three things. First, check AM and PM. Second, check the hour and minutes. Third, check the days. An alarm set for weekdays only will not ring on Saturday. An alarm set for one day only will not ring the next day. Open the alarm, fix the setting, and save again. Test the fix with a five minute alarm in the afternoon.

If the words on your screen look different

Not every Galaxy phone shows the same words in the Clock app. A smaller A series phone may arrange the buttons a little differently from a larger S series phone. The layout can also change with your region, your phone company, and your One UI version. In October 2026, phones may run One UI 8, One UI 8.5, or One UI 9. Samsung changes small details between versions.

Look for the ideas, not the exact spelling. Look for a clock icon, the word Alarm, a plus sign to add, and a Save button. If a button says Done instead of Save, it does the same job. If you cannot find a setting, do not guess and tap at random. Open Settings and use the search box at the top. Type a simple word, such as alarm. Your phone will point you to the right place. If the search shows nothing useful, ask a family member to look with you. The alarm is worth setting correctly, so take the extra minute to check.
