New Galaxy Setup Checklist

A new phone can feel like a lot at once. There are many settings, and it is easy to forget a step or to feel unsure about where to start. This checklist breaks the setup into twelve small steps, in a sensible order. Tick each step only when you have actually done it. You do not need to finish all twelve in one sitting. Do a few steps, take a break, and come back later. Your progress is saved only in this browser, on this device, so you can close the page and return to it later without losing your ticks.

Work through the steps in order if you can, because some steps help the later ones. For example, connecting to Wi-Fi first makes the software update easier, and saving contacts early means your emergency contacts step will be quicker. If a step does not apply to you, for example if you do not use WhatsApp, you can leave it unticked or tick it after you have decided you do not need it, and move on. There is no test and no score that matters. The aim is a phone that is set up safely, with the people and details you need easy to find.

All state stays in the browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, and this site does not keep a copy of your progress. Only this browser, on this device, remembers your ticks, using local storage under one key for this checklist. If you use a different phone, tablet, or browser, the checklist will start empty there. The "Start again" button clears the saved ticks in this browser. The "Print checklist" button prints the page so you can tick steps on paper instead.

How to use this tool

  1. Read the first checklist item below.
  2. Do that step on your Galaxy phone.
  3. Tick the box next to the item when the step is done.
  4. Watch the progress line update to show how many steps you have done.
  5. When you finish, or at any time, tap "Print checklist" if you want a paper copy.

You have done 0 of 12.

Worked example

Example: Sara has just got a new Galaxy phone. She connects to Wi-Fi, checks for a software update, and sets a screen lock. Those are the first three steps, so her progress reads "You have done 3 of 12." She stops for a break, closes the page, and comes back later. Her three ticks are still there, because they were saved only in her browser. When you tap "Try the example", the first three boxes are ticked for you, the progress updates to 3 of 12, and the ticks are saved in this browser. You can untick them or tap "Start again" to clear them.

Common mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Is my progress saved on this website?

No. Your ticks are saved only in this browser, on this device, using local storage. Nothing is sent to this site, and the site does not keep a copy. If you open the page in a different browser or on a different device, it will start empty.

What happens if I tap "Start again"?

"Start again" clears all the ticks and the saved progress in this browser. The checklist goes back to 0 of 12. It does not change anything on your phone. Use it only when you want a fresh, empty checklist.

Do I have to do all twelve steps in one day?

No. Do a few steps at a time, take breaks, and come back later. Your progress is saved in this browser, so you can return and pick up where you left off. The important steps are the screen lock, contacts, emergency contacts, and backup, so do those early if you can.

Can I print the checklist and tick it on paper?

Yes. Tap "Print checklist" to print the page. You can tick the printed boxes with a pen. Printing does not clear the ticks saved in your browser. You can use paper, the on-screen boxes, or both.

What if I do not use WhatsApp?

Leave that box unticked and move on, or tick it once you have decided you do not need it. The checklist is a guide, not a rule. The other steps still help your phone work well and stay safe.
